PSP Go! to be announced at E3

According to 1Up, who apparently has access to one of Sony’s next generation PSP consoles, Sony will  be officially announcing the new PSP at this year’s E3 conference in June.  According to 1Up, the revamped PSP will be called the PSP Go!

Apart from that, 1Up also revealed that the PSP Go! will sport an internal flash drive, and won’t rely on UMD disks as is the standard with current generation portable consoles. In fact, there will not be any external cartridges or disks required for games, instead, users will be able to download games directly to the system’s built in flash drive.

The next PSP will apparently be available in an 8GB as well as a 16GB variant. 1Up also revealed that the PSP Go! will be released later this year, sometime between September and November.  There will be at least 100 classic as well as new PSP titles available for download when the PSP Go! is released.

In terms of new design features, the PSP Go! Is reported to have a larger screen, a slide out keyboard, a d-pad, analog nub, and traditional face buttons. There will be no second thumb analog stick, as employed by the PS3 controller.

While 1Up said that their source is reliable, it is worth remembering that Sony at this point has refused to comment on the upcoming PSP.

Sony did however recently announce that they would be releasing Tekken 6, Little Big Planet, Assassin’s Creed, Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny and Rock Band: Unplugged for the PSP in the future.

I'm reckonning here that losing the UMD disk drive and supplying games via download will cut piracy down on the PSP GO.
