Command and Conquer 4 announced
EA today announced, albeit accidentally, that development for Command and Conquer 4 is underway in Los Angeles.
Electronic Arts UK public relations team revealed earlier via twitter that the developers have kicked off the creation of the next instalment in the popular series. The link provided in the ‘tweet’ did not however navigate to a press release and the post was later taken down.
Nonetheless, the game’s development has been confirmed although a release date was not provided.
A recent survey conducted by marketing firm 2CV regarding what players would like to see in the next instalment indicate that it could feature ‘innovative’ RPG features as well as a co-op multiplayer function.
When asked what features players would like to see in the new Command and Conquer a class based system, RPG style progression and the ‘Crawler’ – “the first ever mobile RTS base” were listed as options. Although Warcraft 3 and Starcraft featured mobile bases, this would add an interesting element to Command and Conquer 4.
None of these features have been confirmed but the addition of elements such as experience points, class based play and co operative multiplayer would leave many RTS fans smiling from ear to ear.
Command and Conquer 3 was released less than a year after it was officially announced in April 2007. If it were possible to apply the same timeframe to Command and Conquer 4 then we could expect it to become available early next year, with a number of expansion packs following closely.
