This week we take a look at one of World of Warcraft’s many secret hidden quests; CLUCK!

As of late, Blizzard has made numerous changes to World of Warcraft that have improved the appeal of various in game  features. The companion pet system is one such feature. Companion pets are nothing new, and can be summoned to follow players about their travels and daily in-game routine. However, they no longer occupy bag slots and titles have been added for collecting them, making them worth slightly more than what they used to be.

Whilst browsing the internet one evening, I stumbled across a hidden quest that I immediately hopped into Azeroth to test out. The reward - a Westfall Chicken companion pet.

This is especially exciting for Horde players, as up until patch 3.1 it was very hard for Horde players to obtain one of these previously Alliance-only pets. Not many Alliance players even know of its existence in the first place.

Step-by-step guide on how to get one of your own:

If you’re playing a Horde character, head to the town of Brill in Tirisfal Glades (located in the North of the Eastern Kingdoms). Speak with William Saldean standing next to the Blacksmithing/armour store and purchase a sack of Special Chicken Feed from him. This will set you back a mere 25 copper.

Next, create a macro by hitting the “Esc” key, selecting “Macro’s,” then “New” and typing “/chicken” into the text box and selecting save. Find a chicken randomly walking about the town, target it and hit the icon for your newly-created macro over and over again as fast as you can. If you prefer not to use a macro, you can type “/chicken” into the chat box over and again.

Make sure you have the Special Chicken Feed in your inventory whilst doing this. After a while you’ll notice the chicken’s health bar turn from yellow to green and you’ll be able to talk with it. Amidst numerous clucks, it will offer you a quest named, well, “CLUCK!” Once you’ve accepted it, type “/cheer” whilst targeting it once more and you’ll be able to feed it the Special Chicken Feed. This will complete your quest.

Turn the quest in to the chicken, after which it will lay an egg which you can loot for your very own Westfall Chicken! Note, however, that the egg it lays can be looted by other players, so loot it quickly. I discovered this the hard way.

For Alliance players, the task is pretty much the same process but performed in a different area. Head over to Farmer Saldean, who is situated on the Saldean’s Farm in Westfall, Eastern Kingdoms. Purchase a sack of Special Chicken Feed from him, find the nearest chicken and do exactly as stated above!

I did this last night, wasn't too difficult! According to Wowhead.com, the jury is still out on whether the "/cheer" is required, but either way I'm really pleased to have a new, funky pet in my collection!
I recommend that everyone do this, if for no other reason than just because you can :)
