Organised Chaos Johannesburg postponed
Organised Chaos was planning to host 1040 players at the MTN Expo Centre (Nasrec) from November 27th-29th 2009 to mark the beginning of their national footprint and expansion into other cities. The event was postponed until they have secured more sponsors and surplus infrastructure.
“To do the event by November, we’d be putting OC into a precarious financial position as we still need to purchase additional power and network infrastructure” says Rheeder-Kleist spokesperson for OC. “We are fully committed to going ahead into other city centres with the first planned event to be JHB seeing as though there are at least 4 times more gamers there, but we’d probably burn ourselves out physically as we personally build much of our kit and financially as the costs to get to JHB seem to be much higher than we originally budgeted for”
Organised Chaos has been running events in Cape Town since December 2001, and has recently smashed its previous year’s attendance record, with their June and July events hitting over 720 attendees. They currently have seating for 840 attendees in Cape Town and had planned for the JHB event in order to expand their national footprint as well as push their infrastructure to support 1000+ attendees.
“Seeing as though we aren’t going to JHB in the immediate future, we’re going to increase CPT’s capacity to 1000, maybe 1200 to the venue capacity which would mark our infrastructure readiness for JHB. We’re aiming to go to JHB by early 2010” says Rheeder-Kleist.

Subscribe to comments feed1. Admins place themselves above everyone else. Believing they are more important than the actual LAN. Im sure anyone will agree the kind of response the admins give, whilst sitting upon their "Thrones" seperated from the LAN, is quite a joke.
2. Its all about the money...R40 TO Park a car. Are u serious?
3. Rumours of brute force with a taser used on young lanners that got a little out of hand. wtf?
4.Tech support terrible. Really really terrible.
Dont try to host a big lan if u cant manage the crowd and provide a satisfactory service to all consumers, that simple.
i dont think paying for parking is that bad if you dont want to pay park somewhere els?
tech support needs to improve i agree
you want tech support.....go pay for it.
Oc tech support is there to help with network issue's...
90% of people want em to fix thier pc's
The admins are some of the best there is and the parking is ONLY R40 and that is for inside parking and with 24 hour security! that is much cheaper than leving your car on the side of the road and geting it stolen.
And the thing obout the tazer IS not true the tazer has never been used as far as I know.
and the admins need to be seperate from the rest of the lan so they can be found easily. would you want to walk around looking for a admin to you can fix the mistake you made to your computer.
that is not even all there is to the lan.
2. You aren't being forced to buy R40 parking INSIDE the Velodrome. If its such an issue to you, go park out back at the business parking area; there is room. (or maybe near Starlight Diner, though your car will probably get broken into)
3. There hasn't been a single incident at the Bellville Velodrome where anyone was tazered at Organised Chaos. The security guards apparently like testing theirs very frequently, but they haven't been used on anyone. The "young lanners" you're misunderstanding were gate-crashers from a next door event, and they were walking through the LAN, eying people's personal possessions. They were told to leave at least 15 times, but kept coming back.
Also, if you like rumours, then how about ones about your mother / father / sister / brother / etc.? Must be true if its a RUMOUR! ;)
4. Tech Support? Sorry, I think I just got run over by a truck. Since when did OC offer free "TECH SUPPORT"??? What you get at OC is NETWORK TROUBLESHOOTING; so that you can connect to the network successfully.
5. Anon, I heard you like to make up stuff. Velodrome exclusivity rental, paying admin salaries, equipment maintenance / improvements, and so on - you're remarkably closed-minded like so many other smart-asses who think they've figured it all out. If you think its that affordable and easy to run a LAN, start your own, then try preaching.
6. Show me 1 LAN that's run better in Cape Town EVERY MONTH. Orly? Some other LAN? Advertising? Deliberate mud-slinging? FAIL.
I'm not sure why you are posting in the tone but we definitely don't place ourselves above everyone else. We are there to provide a service. Sometimes we just want to play a game and on Saturday. I'm sorry if we didn't respond to one of your requests but come speak to me next time and we can ensure you are assisted. Bearing in mind we don't do re-installs for people or data-backups and very often this is what is asked of us. We also aren't at a LAN to troubleshoot your hardware. If your PC is in a running condition, then we will assist and ensure that you are on the network and connect to our servers.
The parking is something we have to charge for otherwise it is just a free for all which creates chaos. We provide security for the cars and this gives the lanners peace of mind.
O.C. FTW...
