A look at the future of WoW’s Warrior class

Last week we took a look at the Shaman – specifically its popularity and what players of the class have to look forward to in the future. This week we’re focusing on the Warrior.

Similar to the Shaman, the Warrior simply isn’t a popular choice. If we are to use the random sampling of players who have added their characters to the database over at www.wowgamers.co.za, we notice that the Warrior is even less popular than the Shaman is. To be specific – 8% of characters in the database are Warriors. Keep in mind that there are 10 classes.

It’s not hard to fathom exactly why this is the case. Warriors, in general, are best at the job you’d expect them to be best at – tanking. People simply don’t seem to enjoy tanking. They do, however, love to stand at a distance, hit various macros and dish out advice to tanks as to how to do their jobs. Back to the point – they aren’t a popular choice, and judging by the following changes to come they aren’t about to be the next “must-have-level-80” class.

Patch 3.3 is the last major Wrath of the Lich King patch, so until the minute details of Cataclysm are presented to us on a shimmering platter, Warriors have exactly two changes on the horizon. Keeping with their recent trend – surprise – Blizzard is making it easier for Warriors to level. Victory rush will be trainable at level 6. The other change is that of Damage Shield no longer triggering any chance-on-hit effects. So, in all honesty, there’s only really one change to look forward to, and that’s if you plan on levelling a new Warrior.

That’s it. Once again Warriors are seemingly ignored and thrown a little bone to chew on while Blizzard plays with the big boys. The only hope lies with Cataclysm. Let’s hope Blizzard introduces something new and exciting when that eventually hits, as let’s face it – the random little class additions (be it those shiny new spells or kinky minions) are what keeps one excited about one’s character whilst blasting through all that new content. Warriors don’t quite have that, and we can only hope to add a “yet” at the end of that statement.
