Exclusive Books adopts competitive game pricing

MyGaming has learned that local book reseller Exclusive Books has plans to get
into gaming.  Although the retailer has a comprehensive rollout plan to expand
its catalogue going into 2010, for now it is stocking a limited core selection
of games.
Marius Greef is heading up the promotion and marketing of the gaming drive, and
contacted MyGaming explaining exactly how the retailer plans to tackle the
gaming market in SA.
As of now Exclusive Books is focusing on three core titles; Modern Warfare 2,
Assassin’s Creed 2 and DJ Hero. While the selection is limited, Greef promises
that they are aiming to stock entire distributor catalogues by March 2010. With
this in mind, we took a look at Exclusive Books’ pricing and were pleasantly
surprised.

Gamers will be pleased to learn that Exclusive Books appears to have its ear
firmly placed to the ground, and realises that in order to succeed it cannot
adopt similar pricing to that of other main stream retailers such as Incredible
Connection and Look & Listen. Instead, Greef informed us that they intend to
undercut the most competitive local retailers such as Kalahari, Take2, BT Games
and Zaps.
Of the games currently stocked, Exclusive Books either marginally undercuts, or
is equal in pricing to Kalahari.net, who is the most consistently well priced
games reseller in SA.
This bodes well for Exclusive Books’ future in the local gaming market, as
well as the impact it will have on local pricing in general.
In what many will consider an unexpected move, Exclusive Books will not opt to
sell games at its existing storefronts. Instead, all sales will be conducted
online, similar to other e-tailers. Furthermore, customers will not be charged
for delivery.
Not only will Exclusive Books be selling games, but they plan to stock consoles
and peripherals in 2010.  Watch this space as we track Exclusive Books’’
entry into the SA gaming market over the next few months.
