I think Megarom must provide each of the major game server ISP's with a copy of MW2 so that we can join those servers for local games by adding them as Steam Friends.

Good idea?

Just noting that saying peer-to-peer server seems like misnomer :P, but I get the idea. Couldn't the local bandwidth issue be sorted by a program like routesentry? I know it's used extensively in the tf2 community.

very interesting article i must say.
I wounder if the difference between 384k and 512 will be, playability wise be worth the upgrade to 512k ? or is 4mb simply the way to go for mw2 performance..

Blaze, from what I have gathered over the years, the increased price from 384 to 512 does not warrant the performance increase.

You may as well spend a bit extra and go 4Mbps. With a 4MBps line you will be selected to host games, which some say does give you an edge when playing, although, it also eats bandwidth.

Playing on a 384 line I almost always get 4 bars and its very playable.

It won't work for some local company to simply "host" a p2p server as there doesn't appear to be any way to guarantee that IWNet will select that computer as the host. It'll be sort of like just jabbing a server connection in the dark in the hope of hitting a game that could use its services. Far too hit and miss.

I must say I played Team Deathmatch last night for 3 hours and had an absolute blast! Scored 12 levels in that time, unlocked some awesome stuff. Props to all the local guys I played with, everyone was well behaved and generally just had a fun time.

I suspect that I was selected as a host a few times last night and so to read that it's using 200mb an hour of bandwidth is quite frightening; hope that amount is either inaccurate or due for a nerf in a future patch.

Perhaps if it were hosted by a local company who has a steam username, then one could simply join?

I chatted to iGame about this. It is impossible to automate a continuous server in MW2.
