Nvidia’s first DX11 cards will be GTX 400 series

Nvidia has revealed that its upcoming Fermi GPU will be branded as the GTX400 series, and will initially consist of the GTX 480 and GTX 470, with the higher number representing the more powerful card.

The GTX 300 series was reserved for Nvidia’s “new” DX10.1 cards, mostly consisting of entry level and mobile graphics chips.

The GTX 480 and GTX 470 are due out next month, although Nvidia has not confirmed an official release date.

It will be interesting to see where these cards fit into the current graphics card market, and how they measure up against AMD’s HD 5000 series.

I have a very bad feeling that these cards are going to cost MEGA bucks. My prediction on these cards is that the GTX 480 will go for no less than R8000 per card here in S.A.

Nvidea are making a huge mistake by overpricing their cards, especially since ATI have made such a good comeback with the HD 4 and 5 range, bundled with the good price and value for money. However it will be interesting to see what will come from the 400 range, despite the probable R6-8 k price tag.

I Dunno hey .. that was the prediction on the 200 series when it took over from the 9800. I think they will enter the market at a competitive price .. R3000 - R5000. tops
