Well known local Counter-Strike: Source player Ryan “Ach3” Macquet may soon become a local celebrity, as he is staring in an upcoming local South African Blockbuster; The Unforgiving.
"Two survivors, who appear unwilling to answer questions, are the only links authorities have to a spate of attacks that have hit rural South Africa," reads a short write up of the game.
“There are over 25,000 murders in South Africa each year. This is the story of 4.” Reads the gory text displayed in what can be described as a rather unnerving trailer for a movie which will quickly remind many of Saw or Hostel.
Macquet will star in the movie, and is also on board as an Executive producer.
In terms of the gaming community, Macquet is known for starting the first purely CSS lineup in the form of heAd. He and his teammates managed to place 4th at rAge 2005, SA’s first ever major CSS competition, with them being the highest placing "CSS-only" squad at the event. Macquet now heads up team Avatar which is known to feature top players such as Sharon "ShazzChkcL" Waison.
Macquet studied acting at AFDA alongside friend Alastair Orr who went into editing. The pair went on to start up their own production company after graduating, and have since been involved in various corporate and private projects. When they were able to secure funding from a private UK investor, they immediately began preproduction on The Unforgiving.
The movie will be aired across 40-50 Numetro and Ster Kinekor cinemas across the country in January 2010.
