NBC announce MMO based on iconic sci-fi series

That’s right, every serious nerd (myself included) on earth just wept at least one tiny tear of joy.
Battlestar has come to represent the pinnacle of contemporary sci-fi television, so what better IP to use for a massively multiplayer online video game?

Rights holder NBC today announced that a “client-free” “browser-based” MMO is currently being developed, and it will feature “state of the art graphics”. I’m not really sure how that’s going to work, but my interest certainly is piqued.

“Players will be able to choose to play as cylons or humans in a constant struggle to control the universe or just survive its perils. A blend of tactical space combat, exploration, and mission-based gameplay will provide a diverse experience. The dramatic missions will define the game's overall storyline, enabling the player to delve into mysteries of the Battlestar universe. Battlestar Galactica Online will create a new standard for web games, with beautiful 3d graphics and innovative game mechanics bringing a new level of game play to browser based MMOG. Assets from the television production will be integrated into the game to deliver an even more authentic experience.”

The game is set to be released in the final quarter of this year.

A browser based MMO with "state of the art" graphics & gameplay. This I need to see. Im the biggest BSG fan but Frak me this smells of BS. Personally I dont think they should defile BSG with a substandard browser based game.

Could be plugin based like Quake live in which it would be possible, or it could be like Runescape...
