Match fixing allegations shake South Korea’s competitive gaming scene
StarCraft is huge in South Korea. In fact, it’s a national sport, with televised matches and massive sponsorships.
Recent allegations have appeared on StarCraft community site Teamliquid.net that claim that top players have been leaking top secret replay footage for a fee, as well as even throwing matches and conspiring with illegal gambling organisations.
Apparently teams housing suspected cheaters have promised to remove those players.
While Blizzard has tried to get involved, its reach is limited given that it is a US company, and the ruling body for eSports in Korea (KeSPA) is taking ownership of the situation.
