PS3 code found in Mass Effect 2

Bioware says it’s just the Unreal engine

Although the PS3 has its own selection of epic exclusive games, it cannot be denied that the lack of Mass Effect and now Mass Effect 2 is ablight on the console’s line up. We can all accept that Microsoft has its own first party exclusives, such as Halo, Forza, Fable and Gears of War.

On the flipside, Sony has its own iconic franchises: Uncharted, Little Big Planet, Gran Turismo and Killzone. However, we still can’t shake the feeling that Mass Effect should be multi platform.

Maybe it’s because Bioware bears no official affiliation to Microsoft,  unlike Bungie, Lionhead and Turn 10. Late last year they released Dragon Age: Origins to all three HD platforms, yet, Mass Effect – arguably their best IP – remains bound exclusively to Microsoft’s gaming platforms.

A glimmer of hope set the internet alight yesterday, when Pushsquare  spotted signs of PS3 code in the Mass Effect 2 PC’s source code.

This led many to believe that Mass Effect 2 was destined for Sony’s console. The idea of a Mass Effect trilogy Blu-Ray disk began doing the rounds, and it seemed like a pretty decent rumour. After all, the details on the exclusivity deal struck between EA and Microsoft remain sketchy, and of course such a product would go on to sell millions on PS3.

Sadly, Bioware responded to the rumours, stating that the PS3 code forms part of the Unreal Engine, and has nothing to do with Mass Effect itself in particular.

However, the idea of a Mass Effect trilogy pack for PS3 remains a possibility at some point. No one outside of the companies involved knows exactly how long the exclusivity deal remains binding, and it seems plausible that following the release of Mass Effect 3, EA will be free to publish the game for PS3.

lol, god of war 3 is a joke compared to mass effect 2. from what i've seen, god of war 3 is god of war 2 with better graphics and a new feature here and there ... nothing too exciting. mentioning gow3 and me2 in the same sentence should be punishable by death -.-
