Massive issues with PlayStation Network today
Thousands of PS3 owners around the world are experiencing issues trying to log into PSN today. As if that weren’t bad enough, users are also reporting problems trying to play games in offline mode.
The first widespread reports started coming through this morning, with users not being able to log into the network, and receiving an 8001050F error message instead.
Apparently, the date on all pre-slim PS3s has also been set to December 31st, and the time has also been changed. Users are also reporting that they are losing access to their trophy cabinet. Store bought games are now reflected as “Corrupted data” in the PS3 menu, and games downloaded from PSN are not available.
The PSN going down is one thing, and most PS3 owners would not be too upset about this. However, not being able to play games in offline in causing a lot of anger.
The problem seems to only be affecting the classic “fat” PS3s, and PS3 slim owners have not been experiencing the problems. Mysteriously, some users are reporting experiencing no issues whatsoever, and it is currently difficult to identify a single cause.
Sony has acknowledged the problem, and is working on a fix.
“We’re aware that many of you are having problems connecting to PSN, and yes, we’re looking into it. Stay tuned for updates.”
While everything is up in the air at this point in time, it is probably wise to steer clear of PSN for the next 24 hours or so, or at least until Sony sorts everything out.
