SA won’t get free Forza 3 DLC
Last week Microsoft announced that it would be releasing free downloadable content (DLC) for its much anticipated Racing sim, Forza 3.
The free add-on pack will feature a number of classic cars, namely:
’65 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA
’64 Aston Martin DB5 Vantage
’81 BMW M1
’60 Chevrolet Corvette
’69 Dodge Charger
’57 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa
’80 Fiat 131 Abarth
’67 Lamborghini Miura P400
’71 Nissan Skyline 2000 GT-R
’65 Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe
The international community has responded positively to the announcement of the DLC, with only a few dissenting users complaining that the developer should just put the DLC on the disk.
The fact that the DLC is free has soothed annoyed customers, and the DLC code to be included with the retail purchase should make the download straight forward and free.
However, Microsoft has yet to recognize South Africa as an Xbox Live (XBL) using region. XBL users must use fake international addresses to sign up for the service, and even after doing so, a significant portion of content, mostly DLC, is region blocked.
A forum post on Xbox-360.co.za confirms that the Forza 3 retail pack to be sold in SA will not include the DLC codes required to download the free extra content that is designed to reward gamers for buying the game new.
In contrast, PS3 users face no such restrictions, and can use the PlayStation Network for free, and even have a dedicated locally hosted PlayStation Network mirror which allows them to download content such as games and demos using cheap local bandwidth.
Considering that the PS3 Slim is now available for R3800, and South African’s can buy the console knowing that its online component is fully supported here, it may fast become the console of choice for local gamers.
Not only do South African’s have to pay a premium for consoles and games, but as long as Microsoft continues to ignore the region, local gamers will never experience full Xbox 360 functionality.
