Analyst says Project Natal will be cheaper than Sony Motion control
Michael Pachter, a well known gaming analyst for international financial services firm Wedbush Morgan, has written in his monthly column that he believes the Xbox 360’s Project Natal motion controlling hardware will be cheaper than that of Sony’s EyeWand (as he refers to it).
"I think that Natal will cost $50, as it only really involves a camera (a three-lensed camera, but a camera nonetheless)," he wrote. "The EyeWand, on the other hand, involves a camera and two controllers, so it may be slightly more expensive. I would be surprised if the EyeWand retails for more than $100. Neither impacts the other, as neither is intended to compete with the other."
As a result of the cost he also feels that Microsoft’s offering will do better in the long run. Additionally he feels that the hardware will be bundled with the Xbox 360 console, making it an attractive option for buyers.
Few details are currently available regarding price and date of availability. A Microsoft representative did however recently announce that Project Natal would adopt a curve based pricing model. This means that the hardware will be released at a high price and will slowly be reduced.
