Gears of War 3 to be announced shortly?
It is widely believed that Epic Games is currently working on the next iteration of the iconic Xbox 360 exclusive franchise Gears of War. Gears of War 2 was released late in 2008 to critical acclaim, and it is highly unlikely that Microsoft has not commissioned the studio to produce a third iteration of the wildly popular series.
A comment posted on Twitter by Spike TV host Geoff Keighly quotes Gears of War mastermind Cliffy Bleszinski saying "You ready for the big show on Saturday night? Can't wait to see you!" While the comment is pretty innocuous, many have taken it as a subtle hint that Epic will be one of the developers who announces a new game at the 2009 VGAs. Keighly, who will be presenting the show, has confirmed that there are a few games that will be announced at the awards show, and if the marketing hyperbole is to be believed then the line-up will “blow viewers away”.
The VGA’s are likened to the MTV music awards of gaming and will be aired on December 12. Unfortunately, the show will not be streamed online, and therefore there is no way that South Africans will be able to watch them.
While there is little evidence which suggests that Gears of War 3 will indeed be announced at the VGAs, it is reasonable to assume that it may well be. It has been over a year since Gears of War 2, and many consider the announcement of a third game not so much a matter of “if”, but rather “when”.
