MW2’s near 5 month kill-streak finally ends

Since it was released in November last year, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has retained its position as the most played Xbox 360 game in SA, until now.  According to Xbox Gaming’s tracking system, Bad Company 2 had displaced the wildly successful FPS.

Xbox Live activity charts

1.    Battlefield: Bad Company 2
2.    Modern Warfare 2
3.    Forza Motorsport 3
4.    Borderlands
5.    Gears of War 2
6.    FIFA 10
7.    Game Room
8.    Mass Effect 2
9.    Final Fantasy XIII
10.    BioShock 2

The most obvious change to the charts in Bad Company 2’s debut at first place. Whether or not it will hold this position next week remains to be seen, and we might just see a bump in Modern Warfare 2 activity with the launch of the new map pack today.

However, my experience of Bad Company 2 is that it is super addictive and compelling, and it’s likely to hold the attention of gamers for some time.

Modern Warfare 2 was not the only Call of Duty to take a dive, and CoD4 dropped out of the top ten altogether, as did Dragon Age: Origins.

Impressively Borderlands, Forza 3, Bioshock 2 and Mass Effect 2 held out in the top ten, while stalwart shooter Gears of War 2 continues to defy expectations, hanging in there after almost a year and a half.

Microsoft’s Gameroom makes a lukewarm entrance at number 7, but our guess is that the novelty of the new arcade themed application will wear of pretty fast, and it will drop out of the charts within the next 2 weeks.

With a good portion of 2010’s big Xbox 360 releases already out the way, we expect these charts to settle for a while, although the likes of Metro 2033 and Just Cause 2 are quite likely to make an entrance next week.
